Upon first driving the vehicle, with the key in position 1, (one turn foward, not cranking) the tach and speedometer, oil, all guages would all dial in the accurate direction, then back, then I could hear a constant hum coming from the fuel pump, or rear area. I'd like to say fuel pump problem, but the problem is reoccuring. Does it make a difference which fuel pump I use?

I have the 5.4 liter engine with 4WD and 4 wheel auto leveling air suspension. However, when I started looking for one, I found different part numbers for the 4.6 liter engine with std suspension, another number is it has auto adjusting (air leveling) suspension and yet another number for 4WD. Not gas comes out when I turn on the key or turn the engine over with the starter. I opened up the injection line at the fuel rail and there was no residual pressure. this happened about 3 times in a month and then it would not start at all. My car would not start, but if you gave it a squirt of starting fluid it would take right off and run fine. There is none noted on the fuse/relay diagram. As far as I know I don't have one in the underdash fuse box. I have a fuel pump relay in the underhood fuse box that is OK. I have a 99 with what appears to be a bad fuel pump. It looks like most of the problems are with 05 Expeditions. It is my understanding that they mounted the aluminum base of this module right on the steel frame - ideal for electrolysis and corrosion - mine is eaten right through - I'll try including a picture in my next post - see if I can figure out how to do it. I have kept the old part (6C2Z-9D372-A module) in case there is a recall on this - I may be able to get my money back. They were aware of this issue and ran diagnostics - unlike some other posts here, where it took weeks or months to get it fixed, they figured it out and fixed it right away - My Ford dealer went all out, got it done in two days.

I talked to the repair chief about what I'd found out about this problem on Edmunds - also told him that I'd read here that there was a scarcity of replacement parts. Had to have it towed to the Suburban Ford - our local MI dealership next day - my wife wasn't going to mess with it - it's her business vehicle - only has 45k miles. In desperation, tried a hair dryer on the passenger-side electronics against the fire wall and after 20 minutes, LO & BEHOLD it started! Then, like an idiot, I assumed I could drive it to the repair shop, and it died a block away - couldn't restart it, had no access to anything on the street like that. but I got a lot of help and insight from this site. In January with all the snow and salt, I expect this issue is worse up north. I had the relay problem - corroded right through.
